I remember seeing an image similar to this online once. I read it and thought, oh man, I DO THIS! And then started reading the comments that all said the same thing...we all did this, turned our music down to "see better". For a while, I thought I was the only one...or at least it wasn't a common thing people did. But apparently it is. And suddenly I didn't feel so, "alone". This then led me to have a discussion with a friend, who apparently also does this too. Who knew!
I can't be the only one.
This same idea applied to when I started being more active as an educator on Twitter, reading blog posts, listening to educational podcasts, etc. Suddenly I didn't feel like the "only one". Suddenly, there were so many other educators (outside of my circle of co-workers and educator friends) out there that I could relate to, connect with, and get ideas from. Others who shared my passion for education and kids, others who shared that feeling of sometimes feeling unqualified for this job, others who wanted to learn more in different fields and practices...
And, if you read the image above and thought, hmm, I've never thought of doing this...then you've just learned something new today!
So, why share my story & learning?
One, to reflect. This happens so much in my head, in my discussions with colleagues, on Twitter...so I'm just taking it one step past 240 characters. Two, to share, as someone out there may read something I blog about and think, "I do this!" or "I never thought of this!". Or learn something new that I share (note: keep the music up until you get to the new area of driving, then lower volume for optimal vision). Three, to grow. To hear back from others who may have things/ideas/reflections to share along with me.
Here's your opportunity. Share on twitter, blog, have a hallway conversation with a coworker...share what you know, share what you've read, share your experiences, share your challenges. Let's grow together. Let's learn together.
